Globally, an estimated 92 million tons of textile waste are produced annually [1]. And we have enough apparel on the planet to clothe the next six generations [2]. These stats should make you want to rethink your wardrobe.
After working at a startup whose mission was to help retailers reduce their environmental footprint by rerouting returned items, I was inspired to continue supporting this cause in my own way: clothing consignment. I realized that so many people in my own circles were giving their unwanted clothes to Goodwill or other donation centers where they were ultimately discarded if not resold.
A Better Closet, an online clothing consignment shop, was created to break this cycle by personally rehoming items, recouping value on clothing, and educating shoppers on more sustainable shopping practices.
My hobby business has expanded to 26 clients, including a fashion influencer with 214K followers. I’ve kept 840 items (and counting) out of landfill. I’ve grown my Poshmark closet to 100K followers. And I’m slowly but steadily growing my social presence in my spare time.

The abc’s of reselling
Story Time!
Created several short-form videos to share entertaining clothing stories — from missing out on the sale of my grandmother’s fur coat to stumbling upon a vintage 1950’s Chanel purse on the sidewalk. Both videos leveraged compelling hooks, trending audio, and thought-out captions to grab users’ attention and stop them in their scroll.
Results: 520K total views
Going LIVE in 3…2…1
Poshmark is my primary resale platform since I’ve achieved Posh Ambassador II status, though I also resell on eBay, Curtsy, Mercari, Whatnot, and Instagram. Configure photo editing, SEO titles, and detailed descriptions that get my inventory moving. Host Poshmark Live Shows (think QVC) and go live approximately 2-4x per month, with repeat shoppers tuning in to add to their collection or just join the conversation!
Results: 100K followers; avg 50 viewers per live show

Developed an Instagram Stories template using Canva to share a visual summary of all items sold per month, averaging 30-60 items depending on the season. All visual graphics adhere to my own brand guidelines found within my content strategy.
Results: 20 avg engagements; 5-10 new followers per month
